Locksmith services for Little Rock and nearby areasNeed service? Call (501) 389-8286

An employee leaves without returning a key. A contractor cannot account for a copy. A manager loses a ring that opens several doors.

Before ordering replacement locks, identify what the missing keys can access. The right response depends on the doors involved, the key system, and the condition of the hardware.

ARD Locksmith helps businesses in Little Rock and nearby communities review compatible locks and plan changes to key access. Here is what to prepare before requesting service.

1. Identify which keys are missing

Start with your key records and the person responsible for the property. Note:

  • Which keys were issued and which were returned.
  • The doors or areas each missing key can open.
  • Whether the key operates one lock, several doors, or a master-key group.
  • Whether any affected entrance is shared with other tenants.

A returned key does not establish whether additional copies exist. Record what you know and flag uncertainty rather than assuming every copy has been recovered.

Keeping records of key issuance and returns, reporting missing keys promptly, and reviewing access after personnel changes are central parts of key control. Allegion’s key-control guidance.

2. Flag a missing master key before work is planned

Tell the locksmith if the missing key opens multiple areas or is identified as a master key.

Changing one entrance cylinder may leave other doors accessible to that same key. The affected openings and the access that authorized users still need should be reviewed together.

Allegion distinguishes individual keys from master and grand-master keys because their access can cover different groups of openings. Do not assume a missing master key is a single-door problem. Understanding Key Control.

3. Separate access changes from hardware repairs

If suitable locks work properly and the goal is to stop a previous key from operating them, rekeying may be appropriate. Our lock rekeying service covers assessment of compatible cylinders and the requested keying plan.

If a door will not latch, the handle is loose, or the cylinder is damaged, describe that separately. Changing the key combination alone does not repair those problems. The door may need adjustment, repair, or replacement hardware.

Some commercial systems use interchangeable cores, which can allow the core to be changed without replacing the entire lock. Whether that option applies depends on the installed system. Allegion’s explanation of interchangeable cores.

4. Prepare a clear service checklist

Before contacting ARD, gather:

  • Business name, service address, and callback number.
  • A contact authorized to approve the work.
  • A list of affected doors and the number of keyed locks.
  • Photos of the interior and exterior hardware and visible brand labels.
  • Details of missing keys and any known master-key arrangement.
  • The access each manager, employee, or contractor should retain.
  • The number of new keys needed.
  • Any landlord or property-management approval required.

Mention keypads, badges, or electronic access separately so the review is not limited to physical keys. Keep passwords, access codes, and sensitive key-system records out of general inquiry messages.

5. Keep a record after access is changed

Record which doors were included, who received the new keys, and who may authorize additional copies. Locks outside the agreed scope should not be assumed to have changed.

A clear handover list makes the next staff change easier to manage and helps avoid uncertainty about who holds access.

Have a missing business key? Start with an ARD review

You do not need to choose replacement hardware before calling us. Tell ARD Locksmith what happened, which doors are involved, and whether a master key may be affected.

We can review the existing hardware and requested access changes before confirming the scope and scheduling.
